NHRA Division 7 Sonoma LODRS Thursday Final Results

Sonoma Raceway hosted Eliminations on Thursday for NHRA’s Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Event. Marko Perivolaris put his considerable skills to use at his home track to nearly complete a Double Victory. Marko first reached the Super Comp Final, where he ended up short by 001 at the stripe to Trey Vetter. But Perivolaris would not be denied a Wally on Thursday as he came back around in Super Gas, and drove the finish line better to earn a Double Breakout decision over Kevin Griffiths 9.896 to 9.876 on the 9.90 Class Index. Another neat story was a potential Father-Son Double Up with the McClanahan’s both reaching Final Rounds. Ryan would score the Super Stock victory over Jim Grossi, however Dad (Brian) came up 006 Short at the stripe to Jimmy DeFrank. Another top performer was Chad Axford in yet another high profile Final Round this season as he earned the Top Dragster win with a 15 Total Lap (012 + 7.232 on 7.23 Dial) to defeat TAFC standout Brian Hough. Other winners on the day include Don Meziere (Top Sportsman), Kevin Carter (Comp), Andrew Olson (Super Street) and Michael O’Neil (Sportsman Motorcycle). Most of these racers will be back in action during the NHRA Denso Sonoma Nationals, while the rest will hit the track next during the September NHRA Division 7 Points Race at Famoso Raceway.

NHRA Division 7 Sonoma LODRS Wednesday Qualifying

NHRA’s Big Weekend at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California got off to an early start with the NHRA Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. Qualifying and Round 1 Eliminations for most categories were on the schedule for Wednesday. Steve Casner earned the #1 spot in Top Dragster with a 6.113 ET in an odd tiebreaker scenario. Both Casner and Jennifer Wiens recorded 6.113’s, but going to MPH tiebreaker with both down to 198 and change, the spot went to Steve by .38MPH. This makes a big difference on the ladder as Steve earned the E1 Bye with an odd number of cars in the category. More excitement was in Stock Eliminator as Hal Sorensen jumped into the Family ’69 Camaro and threw down an excellent 11.502 ET to be 1.198 Under the L/SA Class Index for the #1 spot. Other Top Qualifiers for the NHRA Division 7 Sonoma event include Mike Doushgounian (Top Sportsman), Cali Neff (Competition Eliminator), Jim Grossi (Super Stock) and Michael O’Neil (Sportsman Motorcycle).
