Sunday Recap
The Double Header weekend for NHRA Division 5 at SRCA Dragstrip in Great Bend, Kansas is in the books with an electric Day of Eliminations for Race 2 on Sunday. Perhaps the biggest story of the day was Jordan Pratt completing a Weekend Sweep of Super Gas. Pratt was 24 Total (010 + 10.064 on 10.05) in the Final Round to defeat Mike Johnston by 013 at the Finish Line. Another big happening on the Day was a Father-Son Final Round in Super Street. Chris Haralson would take the win over Dad (Dennis) in a Double Breakout Decision 11.048 to 11.018 on the 11.05 Index. The Competition Eliminator Final Round would see a repeat matchup of Race 1 between Don Thomas and Jeff Taylor, but this time around would be a different outcome. Thomas had a .003 RT advantage, but Taylor had the power to run 58 Under to Thomas’ 50 Under to earn the Wally. Phil Unruh kept up hot streak in Super Comp with another Victory, this time throwing down a 4 Total Package (002 + 9.052 on 9.05) for the win over Ryan Stifflear. Other Winners from NHRA D5 Great Bend Race 2 include Jeff Koron (Top Dragster), Lance Abbott (Top Sportsman), Brett Speer (Super Stock), Hunter Pierdolla (Stock) and John Fitzpatrick (Sportsman Motorcycle). NHRA Division 5 will be back in action next month at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota.

Saturday Recap
Saturday was an incredible day of Racing at SRCA Dragstrip in Great Bend, Kansas for the NHRA Division 5 Double Header. Eliminations were on the line for the Top Alcohol Regional portion of this event, and there were a couple great stories in the Winners Circle. Nick Spiegel takes home the Top Alcohol Dragster Wally in an Upset Final Round 5.39 to 5.49 over National Points Leader Jamie Noonan. This is even more special for Spiegel and the Stevens Team with it being their first race back to the track after Team Owner James Stevens’ nasty crash in Pomona earlier this year. Another cool story is in Top Alcohol Funny Car, where Kansas racer Kyle Smith earned the Win for the Homestate crowd. Smith Qualified #3, and did it the hard way defeating 4, 2 and 1 Qualifiers along the way. Kyle laid down a solid 5.658 ET to defeat fellow local racer and Top Qualifier Christine Foster. Qualifying was on the docket Saturday for Race 2 of the NHRA D5 Great Bend Doubleheader. Top Qualifiers for Race 2 were: Roland Rang (Top Dragster), Allen Firestone (Top Sportsman), Steve Basgall (Competition Eliminator), Sean Marconette (Super Stock), Jim Beuthel (Stock) and John Fitzpatrick (Sportsman Motorcycle). Friday Recap
The NHRA Division 5 Double Header at SRCA Dragstrip in Great Bend, Kansas continued on Friday with Eliminations for Race 1 as well as Qualifying Rounds for the Top Alcohol Regional event. National Points Leader Jamie Noonan topped the field in Top Alcohol Dragster with a 5.379 ET. Meanwhile in Top Alcohol Funny Car, local racer Christine Foster leads the way with a 5.635 ET. Super Comp D5 Points Leader Jim Glenn extends his Lead by earning the Race 1 victory. Glenn used a 17 Total lap (007 + 9.060 on 9.05 Index) to reach the stripe 003 before Jeremy Smith. Another excellent Final Round was in Competition Eliminator, where a pair of D4 heavyweights reached the Final Round. In an all-Dragster matchup, Don Thomas takes a small permanent Index hit with a 61 Under run to defeat Defending World Champ Jeff Taylor’s 59 Under for a Margin of Victory totaling 029 at the Finish Line. Another D4 victory went to Joey Luttrull as he pulled off a Rare Top Dragster Win for the #1 Qualifying position. Joey was 010 and 3 Above (6.220 on 6.19 Dial) in the Final Round to defeat Kevin Haack’s 032 and 7.246 on 7.23 by 008 at the Stripe. Other Winners from Race 1 include Tom Patterson (Top Sportsman), Todd Erwin (Super Stock), Tyler Cassil (Stock), Jordan Pratt (Super Gas), Dominic Dexter (Super Street) and Michael Nash (Sportsman Motorcycle). Thursday Recap
NHRA Division 5 heads back to Great Bend, Kansas for the first time in several years for a Double Header weekend at SRCA Dragstrip. The newly renovated Great Bend track is looking great for two full Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series points events. Qualifying for Race 1 took place on Thursday. Texas racer Joey Luttrull earned the Top Dragster #1 spot with a 6.125 on the 6.10 class cap. Homestate racer Steve Basgall earned the Top Qualifier spot in Competition Eliminator with a 65 Under lap in his A/ED. Other Low Qualifiers for Race 1 include Allen Firestone (Top Sportsman), Bob Cruzen (Super Stock), Craig Maddox (Stock) and Tracy Helmhold (Sportsman Motorcycle). Thursday Shootout Winners were Brett Speer (Stock/SS Combo), Wayde Samuel (Super Comp), Bill Dennis (Super Gas) and Steven Wilson (Super Street). Eliminations for Race 1 as well as Qualifying Sessions for the Top Alcohol Regional are on the schedule for Friday during the NHRA D5 Great Bend Event.
